Re: Recommended Listening:

Another recommended listening thread!

I'm pretty polar in that I really like live looping in live
performances, where I hate the use of pre-recorded loops. Most of the
CDs I listen to don't use much live looping.

I really like:

Alog "Duck Rabbit"
This electronic duo from Norway released this fantastic CD in 2002 or
so. The great thing about it is that it's a clicks'n'cuts/IDM release
in which many of the loops do not match up with each other, but they
fit into a cohesive whole. There's lots of stuff in odd time
signatures, or where the loops restart in seemingly random places, but
it doesn't lose its flow.

Portishead "Third"
Very different from their 2 earlier albums - this one gets more into a
loose psychedelic band sound. Pre-recorded loops are blended with live
instrumentation in a way that that sounds like a barely-together but
very talented garage band. It's one of those releases that's
compositionally and melodically pretty strange, but is still very
listenable.

Lastly, if you like Morcheeba, you'll probably really like Erykah
Badu's "New Amerykah Part I" or something like that. I think it's a
more successful take, and there's lots of great tracks. I wasn't as
into Part II.
