Scanning the shortwave dial for the faintest of transmissions, D.Burke Mahoney creates compositions that haunt and stimulate his listeners. Radio has become his instrument of choice in creating richly textured and melodic soundscapes that range from heavy and dense to sparse and subtle. QMT is a new project by Alan Bloor, James Bailey & Matthew Poulakakis. The trio taps, rubs, scrapes and otherwise manipulates instruments both home made & found, mostly made of metal, to create improvised soundscapes. The results are often surprisingly delicate and have been described as “eerie” and “oddly orchestral.” All three are veterans of local experimental scenes and in addition to their many solo and collaborative projects are all currently members of improv ensemble Build To Suit. 10:30 . CAMERON/DAVISON . W.A.Davison is a multi-disciplinary artist who has been producing various forms of experimental art and music for over 30 years. As a composer, improvisor, and instrument-builder Davison has performed solo (as Songs of the New Erotics, Th W rbl r, M.Stactor, etc.), in his own ensembles (Urban Refuse Group, Six Heads), and in various collaborations (with members of CCMC, Nihilist Spasm Band, AMM, MSBR, irr.app.(ext.), Nurse With Wound, and many others). Allison Cameron performs improvised music and creates sound environments using Casio SK sampling keyboards/Casio saxophone/ukulele/banjo/Honeytone amplifiers/radios/a desktop theremin/drum machine/crackle box/cassette tapes/miscellaneous instruments & objects amplified with a variety of contact mics/a variety of pedals including: a homemade fuzz factory, envelope follower synth, Digi-tech wah, and Holy Grail reverb/piano.
