I was replying to Charles comment, so wasn't guessing your meanng at all :-) basically there has to be *some* initial vibration for the circuit to respond. To hope that there is "noise" in the string usually works,but results are much more controllable if the string is given some gentle hint that you want it to respond.
Don't know why the top string on your active p/u instrument responds less well, but the top string usually gets difficult above the 12th fret. Some damping from the bridge? Can try harmonic mode to get high notes better... ...but bet you tried that already. andy Per Boysen wrote:
