Unless you need the complicated scripting function that Per described, I'm not sure you really need an external device -- any MIDI device can send out patch changes. I use a simple trigger foot pedal to cycle through the song setups in my Drumkat, which includes patch assignments for my mixer, looper, and any other MIDI devices I might use. I have 32 channels of MIDI available for sending any sort of MIDI instruction (16 x 2 OUT ports). If you have more than 2 devices you can chain them together using their THRU ports.
The drawback to my system is that there is no random access in calling up songs (at least not gracefully) -- the song order must be programed before each performance, and the pedal cycles through them in order. Perhaps an external MIDI controller would give you more flexibility here. On Nov 2, 2014, at 7:09 AM, Rejyna MDW wrote:
Gear Question:
At the start of each new song in a live performance, I need to change the starting patch number on four devices at once (drums, midi guitar, guitar multi-effects and vocalist harmonizer).
I have been told that there are devices that would make all these changes for me with one button push - neato!
So, here's some of the choices, any advice?
- RJM Music MasterMind - $329.00 - 4 simultaneous devices on different channels
- Voodoo Lab Ground Control Pro Prog MIDI Foot Controller - $399 8 simultaneous devices
- Rocktron MIDI Raider MIDI Footcontroller Pedal $499 - Not sure how many devices simultaneous
- Rocktron MIDI Mate - $219 - Six changes on six channels simultaneously
- GORDIUS Little Giant 2 - $699 - Higher $ than I want to go and how many simultaneous?
Any I'm leaving out? (don't really want a keyboard in my rig and without a computer in the rig, USB powered controllers are out)
Thanks folks! Rejyna
