I have a photograph of Delia over my keyboards! Hero of mine along along with Daphne Oram from the Workshop since the school library got some of their stuff in a stack of BBC records by mistake.
Delia D quit the Workshop when the synths took over and it all became obvious and limited and no sounds were made by hand anymore. With her background in maths she would have thrived in CSound and the like. So much lost potential music. Daphne O quit even earlier I think. It's like they went down one hallway and everyone went down another, and tired of saying "Hey, guys, it's this way" left the building > Date: Sun, 30 Nov 2014 15:37:28 +0000 > From: akbutler@tiscali.co.uk > To: Loopers-Delight@loopers-delight.com > Subject: Re: Hitchhiker's guide to looping etc > > > > > > I wonder how much of what I heard on radio and tv from BBC > > If you can find the "Alchemists of Sound" documentary (BBC). > > Maybe google "delia derbyshire" > > basically the Radiophonic Workshop was available, > and cheaper than the alternatives. > > andy > |
