This would be a really useful feature for making new music, the way I
see it but
your only chance of it's appearing is either by it's inclusion in
Matthias Grob's upcoming
(hopefully) hard ware looper, or if Jeff Larson were to add it to
Mobius or if someone
takes the now-open source code and writes it into new software for the
At one point, we were contemplating adding Random Re-Shuffle of
in the LP-1 Software but life changes, challenges and all the problems
we've had with the
first release of the LP-2 made Bob decide that he just couldn't keep
continual improvements in the LP-1.
I was also working on a real time VST plug-in called Ultra-Slice that
was entirely slice
and slice replaced oriented (adding constraint of randomness
manipulations controlled by
Boid algorithms, Fluid and Particle dynamic algorithms, etc) moving
towards exactly this kind of
approach, but my coding partner decided to stop working on it and it
got shelved due to my inability to program.
Another problem about implementing this kind of functionality is that
with idiosyncratic software upgrades like these, t very, very , very few
end up using them, practically speaking.
As an example, I was dead sure that adding Random ReTrigger would create
really cool new approaches in
improvisation on the LP-2................it just hasn't happened (for
some other salient technical reasons
but also because I think most loopers make music intentionally whereas,
I'm in the happy
accidents school of slicing and dicing (attempt a technique, be
surprised what you are given
randomly and then assume it's another musician who you need to 'jam'
So, I'd love this feature, too, Phil, but I wonder how many people
would use it.
What do you think?
