Re: Cutting Time

Responding to a small comment that Rick made about improvising with the LP-2, perhaps the improvisers that would use the randomized features aren't necessarily early adopters, hence the wait time on seeing results with your innovation.

Yes the point is to remove *time* from the loop, not merely content... and yes, in SUS and Quant flavors. Anywhere in the loop I happen to ask for it.

Maybe only interesting to a few, sure... but given those here who've also expressed interest, I'm happy to be part of such a, well, particular group :)

But let's say I want to remove the tiniest bits of time from a loop, at any point I so desire, for the length of a switchpress ("Remove SUS"?)... I don't think there is a way to do that right now.    If not, please somebody consider it a feature request :)

Matthias has talked about something similar for Evoloop.

Sometimes a Multiply goes on for more Cycles than intended, so
it would be useful to De-Insert (Un-Insert?) a cycle.

Assuming this would come in Quantised/Unquantised and SUS flavours
it would do the job.

The scripting methods make you wait a whole loop before you can do it again,
that's too obvious a disappointment.

Another problem about implementing this kind of functionality is that  with idiosyncratic software upgrades like these, t very, very , very few people
end up using them, practically speaking.

Very true, out of a number of cool EDP tricks I'm familiar with
only 8th Replace caught on.
...and I think it caught on in a fairly small way, about 10 users.

As an example, I was dead sure that adding Random ReTrigger would create really cool new approaches in
improvisation on the LP-2................it just hasn't happened (for some other salient technical reasons
but also because I think most loopers make music intentionally whereas,  I'm in the happy
accidents school of slicing and dicing (attempt a technique,  be surprised what you are given
randomly and then assume it's another musician who you need to 'jam' appropriately with.

trouble with that, I expect, is that is *doesn't* create another musician.
Once you stop hitting RandRetig the loop goes vanilla again.
(or does it?, not seen a demo...a demo would be nice!)

Anyway, I had a think about Random Retrig, and how it really needs the right
kind of loop to perform best.
Did you try using Reverse before starting the retrigs?
Solves  the problem with transients in the loop obscuring whatever
rhythm you're tapping in.
(I woke up with that thought one morning, don't know if I posted it
or if it's common knowledge already)

So,  I'd love this feature, too, Phil,  but I wonder how many people would use it.

+1

What do you think?
