Midi Guitars and Guitar Synths

Venerable loopers,

Does anyone have any information they would care to share with a neophyte
regarding Midi guitars and/or guitar synths?  I really like the concept of
the guitar synth, but know next to nothing about them (models, types,
known problems, etc., etc.).

If anyone has any opinions or information they'd like to pass on about the
topic I'd be most grateful.
