Not "after" though but rather on effect send routings on the mixer channel where the loop output passes through. I still sometimes applies a little effect to full live looping tracks after having recorded them, but for live performance use I have completely left that concept now. I add nothing after the loops, except for a soft stereo compression of the summed signal that goes out to the house PA. The reason for this is that I'm hoping to do more interesting concerts this way, because I create variation by playing new audio into the loops and it usually looks more interesting to see a guy making noise with an instrument then bending over a laptop. For loops that is not in focus - as for a backing percussion loop - I make sure I create them varied enough form the start. It's just a couple of seconds doing that; play something and create a two bar loop, push a button to multiply it by three and punch in one slight variation for one bar. This will make your variation appear every sixth bar and that's perfect for a backing track while you're working on a lead theme loop. I'm finding it optimal, performance-wise, to have two loops playing at the same time. You will have time to play live on top of them and at the same time create variation by overdubbing, substituting etc. That would not be possible with more parallel loops or if you should also have to care for post loop effects. -- Greetings from Sweden Per Boysen www.boysen.se (Swedish) www.looproom.com (international)
