Re: What public is attracted by a Y2K Sampler Video?

Re: What public is attracted by a Y2K Sampler Video?

To echo what has already been said, those who are interested in learning the series of techniques surrounding 'live looping' are the most likely canditates to be interested in the paradigm. But it is a little beyond that, given the cultural phenomenon that extends beyond this mailing list. It's extremely analogous to those who are interested in any musical performance or compositional technique, like the 'shred heads' on guitar forums or the 'code monkeys' on supercollider forums. It is all very much the of the same Ilk.  It's underground, geeky, idiosyncratic etc. It will not break into mainstream music as a genre, that I hear maybe some would like, it's just not in the nature of the phenomenon. But it is common amongst many, a technique among many, a valuable resource that should be celebrated and explored. Kudos to Rick, Sjaak, and all for their efforts. I find this community rather facinating and a valuable resource, and the festivals are a good opportunity for people to share knowledge, which is great in my book. Happy holidays.

um, I see high profile people looping all the time. they are just not billed as "loopers"

as for my audience...depends on the city.  my last major solo show in SF, with only me on the bill....sold out a 475 capacity hall and they let people in to sit on the floor.
but i expect a tiny, tiny fraction of my fans care about "looping". just like a tiny fraction of people who look at a web site care whether it was done in bbedit or dreamweaver.

i still think of looping as a technical term. interesting to those of us who care about technical things.

I'm at a loss to suggest a high profile live looper though,
maybe Eberhard Weber(who would get audience) or Theo Travis.
What about Zoe?
dunnow, let's ask :-)

Hey Zoe, if you headlined a loopfest how
many people do you think you could draw in?
