Well, the GR-55 doesn't have a S/PDIF.

And on second listening I'm not totally happy with how a clean Chapman
Stick sounds right through the GR-55. Too early to say, but it seems
there's something fishy with the "experienced brilliancy" dimension of
the sound - compared to the RME (that sounds just gorgeous). The sound
coming out of the GR-55 reminds me a bit of the dodgy feeling you get
when playing a single coil guitar through an amp at a venue where the
grounding sucks. Not sure this matters for everyone so please don't
take this audiophile contemplation too seriously ;-)

Yesterday I thought the GR-55 sounded great! But then I wasn't using
it as USB audio/MIDI interface but rather recorded its two line
outputs into a stereo line input on the RME as well as MIDI slave
syncing the GR-55. Maybe its fidelity gets a bit "dumbed down" by the
USB audio activity? I thought that wouldn't affect the direct output
though, but then I'm not very tech savvy.
