I certainly hear what you are saying.

My rig has been in various states of disorder for over a year.

What I have played the most during all that time is just a simple, cheap 
little Takamine 6-string acoustic/electric with an on-board Tonewood Amp 
for reverb.

The simple pleasure of just noodling around on it is priceless.
