yep, that way always worked for me. The problem with Ableton is perhaps it has features that raise a certain expectation in the user. The *only* feature that's required is "just route my midi controller to the audio plugin". That's what Echoloop is designed for.
The nice thing with Mobius is that it allows you to set, INTHE PLUGIN, what MIDI port it shall listen to
A similar workaround for would be to run Plogue Bidule as a VST plugin(requires registration) and use that as a 'wrapper' for Echoloop. Basically this whole midi routing thing is a real issue with many VST hosts. Many host developers believe that it isn't necessary to feed midi direct to a plugin because......... andy
